Gasket material: PTFE sheet

What is Teflon?

As a non-reactive hydrophobic compound, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a popular gasket material for a variety of niche applications in a variety of industries.

At SUNWELLSEALS., our premium PTFE products include:

Solid PTFE, Expanded PTFE Gaskets, PTFE Enveloped gaskets, Modified PTFE Gaskets.

 Advantages of PTFE

The chemical, electrical, thermal and physical properties of PTFE make it a versatile material. PTFE is resistant to chemicals, corrosion and long-term periodic wear, is relatively maintenance-free, and as a gasket material does not require additional lubrication. Other benefits of PTFE include:

Almost universal chemical inertness

Insoluble below 300°C

Low dielectric constant (only 2.1 times higher than vacuum) provides high dielectric strength (60MV/m at 1MHz)

Brittleness at extreme temperatures

Good thermal stability (melting point >300°C)

Resistant to UV radiation

Excellent wear resistance to rolling/sliding parts (coefficient of friction 0.05 to 0.10)

Application of PTFE

Due to their extremely hard and elastic properties, gaskets made from PTFE sheets are often used in applications involving very harsh environmental or operating conditions and requiring a high degree of chemical resistance. PTFE gaskets are used extensively in industries such as chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, railways (for tank cars), and pulp and paper.

These physical forces are only a small subset of the applications of PTFE and PTFE hybrid gaskets. Their resilience to chemicals makes PTFE blends very versatile.
